Welcome to my blog. My name is Catherine, I'm 57 years old and I live in Oakvlle, Ontario. I began sewing at an early age. In fact, when I learned to sew, it was considered very cool and creative. I continue to pursue this craft because all the reasons that people have given it up for don't appear to apply to me:  (a) not enough time, (b) it's cheaper to buy than to sew and (c) fitting garments is too difficult. Most posts relate to fashion and sewing. But you will find that some are about current events. I hope you will sign up to follow my blog and add to the conversation with your comments.

My career has been spent creating reproduction historic costumes, bridal wear and custom clothing for clients, historic sites and museums. In between, I create one of a kind figures in cloth and other kinds of textile arts. I'm originally from England and have spent time working in theatre and bring 30 years of sewing experience to each of my projects.

A native of St. John’s, Newfoundland, I have been sewing most of my life. Since retiring from teaching, I have channelled my energies into designing and creating fibre art. Many of my pieces reflect Newfoundland landscapes. Often a landscape will have a combination of hand-dyed cotton and silk fabrics, commercial fabrics, machine stitching, hand sewing and hand embroidery. Each piece is one-of-a-kind, numbered and signed.

Debbie Adams - Sewing Stash Challenge

Looking at my sewing stash, it was becoming apparent that I might never live long enough to use it all up at the rate I was creating! I had an epiphany. Why not challenge myself to use up every scrap of fabric, spool of thread, skein of floss, buttons, piece of trim, patterns, ribbons, beads, ric rac, lace, piping, bias binding, purse handles, googly eyes, velcro, zippers, snaps, quilt batting, stuffing, even interfacing?
