Description

Sunshine Fibre Fest is a fabulous fleece and fibre festival coming up this Saturday May 2 at ODAS Park in Orillia, from 9:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Admission $5 adults, $3 children.

Wheel chair accessible, kid-friendly, and with food available in our cafe-style eating area including vegan, gluten-free and vegetarian options.

Focus is on providing hands-on experiences for people of all ages who would like to meet some fibre animals or try a new craft, and to offer locally-sourced fibre supplies and accessories.

Friends Sheila Klugescheid and Marie Sternberg, avid rug hookers, knitters, crocheters and quilters, are vendors of yarn and rug hooking supplies and have attended many fibre events and craft shows in Southern Ontario. They decided it was time to host a similar festival a little farther north, and they have attracted vendors and farmers from across Ontario and even as far away as Quebec. All the vendors, whether local or from afar, take pride in producing their own product, and there will be fibres from a variety of animals available. Come and visit the fleece and fibre animals in the barn, including alpacas, angora rabbits and sheep, and see the vintage sock machines at work. Watch and try spinning and weaving in the main building. Whether you are an expert at your fibre craft, or would like to try something new, the 30+ vendors will have something for everyone. Sheila and Marie have asked vendors to bring materials for our knitting/sewing/spinning young hopefuls as well.

This year our media sponsor is Harrowsmith Magazine, the farm to condo go-to for living sustainably and simply, a great fit with Sunshine Fibre Fest’s mission.
